A Crystal City man faces charges stemming from a Jan. 23 domestic incident in the 100 block of Maple Street in Crystal City.
According to court records, Antonio Gutierrez, 35, was charged on Jan. 28 with felony first-degree domestic assault and felony first-degree harassment. As of Monday, he was being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro.
The case’s probable cause statement alleges Gutierrez pulled a woman to the ground by her hair, got on top of her and began choking her, causing her breathing to become restricted. He blocked the door to keep the woman and another woman from leaving and threatened them with physical violence if they left.
Crystal City Police Capt. Mike Pruneau said the other woman went to the residence when the resident did not respond to attempts to contact her.
“He told (the woman) he was trying to get the demons out of (the resident),” Pruneau said. “When (the woman) tried to get (the resident) out of the house, (Gutierrez) started pushing (her) and told (her) he would kill both of them.”
Pruneau said EMS personnel examined the alleged victim and didn’t see any lingering injuries.
