The Festus Main Street Association Art & Music Festival for the first time will cover two days. This year’s event will be held May 2-3 in downtown Festus.
The city will close Main Street from Mill Street to Brierton Lane from 7 a.m. Saturday to about 6 p.m. Sunday, said Michelle Hohmeier, an event organizer.
There is no entry fee. The festival’s hours will be noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“Businesses on Main Street will be opening at their usual time, 10 a.m. on Saturday,” she said. “I expect most of the businesses will be open on Saturday for at least their normal hours. Some may be open on Sunday.”
The festival, known as the Festus Art Walk the last two years and other names prior to that, concentrates on music on Saturday and art on Sunday this time around, Hohmeier said.
“It had kind of always been in the plans to expand it,” she said. “We were seeing how it went with the art festival until we had enough volunteers and people on the board to approve (the music portion).
“Saturday is strictly music. And we have the Tanglefoot Pub Crawl. It’s also a Main Street Association event. It goes from noon to midnight. It goes congruently with the Art & Music Festival.”
Hohmeier said music acts slated to play at spots along the street are:
■ At the Petit Paree Restaurant & Lounge, 228 E. Main St.: noon-3 p.m. Kemp, Carrico & Young.
■ At the Contrarian Concert Hall & Theater, 125 E. Main St.: 3-5 p.m. Drama Party.
■ Acts performing at the main stage at Main Street and Brierton Lane are: 5:30-7 p.m. Hollie Schultz; 7-9 p.m. Mojosaurus; 9-11 p.m. The Brad Alan Band.
■ Pogolino’s Pizza and More, 29 E. Main St., also will have live music on its patio that day.
People may bring lawn chairs, Hohmeier said.
“We’ll also have four food trucks,” she said. “There will be a large tent set up on Main Street with tables and chairs for a food court-type area.”
The Tanglefoot Pub Crawl is a new wrinkle to the festivities, Hohmeier said. Participating bars and/or restaurants are Pedal’n Pi, Main & Mill Brewing Co., Petit Paree, The Brick, Contrarian, Four Brothers Mead, Pogolino’s, Central Tap and The Glass Brick. All sit along Main Street except The Glass Brick, a Crystal City business.
“(The Tanglefoot Pub Crawl) is going from bar to bar with friends,” Hohmeier said. “It’s all on Main Street, bars and restaurants. It is a ticketed event. You buy a ticket and when you have your ticket you get a T-shirt for the pub crawl and you get drinks from nine different restaurants or bars. You get nine drinks. Tickets cost $70. They will each offer a signature drink or drinks.”
Hohmeier said The Glass Brick will bring its mobile cigar lounge and will sell beverages from it.
Sunday is “Art Day,” Hohmeier said.
“The Art Day will be pretty much the same as what we’ve had in the past,” she said. “There’s a large variety of arts and crafts. Fine art paintings. Everything is handcrafted. We have about 60 artists (as of April 15). The next couple weeks I could add more. I keep getting people asking. We have woodworking. We have some 3D art. We have jewelry. There’s a variety.
“We’ll also have food trucks. We’ll have acoustical music, nothing loud.”
Hohmeier said she believes the festival will remain in this format.
“It’s been kind of evolving,” she said. “We’ve gotten to this is where it’s going to stay. We just want to make it an entire community event where everyone is welcome and there’s plenty to do for everyone.
“It’s a family-friendly event. You can make it a weekend.”
