High Ridge man sentenced to 12 years for probation violation

Jacob P. Garner, 42, of High Ridge has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for violating the terms of his probation. He was placed on probation after pleading guilty to a drug manufacturing charge in February 2015 and three drug possession charges in May 2017, court records show.

Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor Melenbrink executed the sentences for Garner’s probation violations on Aug. 20. Garner had been sentenced to five years in prison in 2015 and seven years in prison in 2017, but those sentences were both suspended and he was placed on five years’ probation, according to court documents.

Melenbrink ordered Garner to serve the two sentences consecutively for a total of 12 years. However, Garner will be credited with serving 272 days of the sentences, court records said.

Garner was arrested on Aug. 6, 2013, in Cedar Hill after a vehicle he was in was stopped by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators found items believed to be used for producing methamphetamine in the vehicle, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

Garner was arrested again on Nov. 13, 2014, after a Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a Chevrolet Silverado on Green Creek Drive near Romaine Creek Drive in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. When the deputy approached the pickup, a bottle was thrown out the passenger’s side window, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

Garner provided a fake name and Social Security number to the deputy. However, the deputy confirmed the information was false, and Garner told the deputy his real name, the report said.

Garner also told the deputy the bottle that was thrown from the pickup was his, according to the report.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Lindsay Whalen prosecuted the case.
