A De Soto-area man was recently arrested on charges of possession of controlled substance, tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor stealing. He allegedly was found with a substance that tested positive as methamphetamine after being arrested for stealing from an Arnold department store, and he also allegedly stole a woman’s SUV last year, court records show.
Christopher Michael Aubuchon, 35, who lives north of De Soto, was arrested on Jan. 23. As of Monday, Jan. 26, he was being held on a $5,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, according to jail records.
He was charged on Nov. 17 with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; stealing a class A misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D misdemeanor, following a February 2025 arrest in Arnold. He was charged on June 30 with tampering with a motor vehicle, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, for allegedly stealing an SUV in March 2025.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requested the drug possession charge to be considered a class C felony, punishable by three to 10 years in prison, due to Aubuchon being a prior offender. He has been convicted of at least 10 prior felonies and multiple convictions, had his probation revoked every time he was placed on probation and previously has been sentenced to a total of 53 years in prison, according to court records.
A class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in a jail and a fine of up to $2,000, and a class D misdemeanor carries a penalty of a fine of up to $500.
In a probable-cause statement filed by an Arnold Police officer, Aubuchon on Feb. 27, 2025, put on a pair of Nike shoes at the Kohls department store, 2150 Michigan Ave., and left the store while still wearing the shoes allegedly without paying for them.
Aubuchon was stopped by an officer and arrested. The officer allegedly found a suspected controlled substance in Aubuchon’s pocket as well as a suspected controlled substance and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle that Aubuchon was in at the time of his arrest, the report said.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported on July 1, 2025, that the substances tested positive as meth, according to the report.
In a probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a woman on March 8, 2025, reported that Aubuchon stole her 2010 Buick Enclave. The woman said Aubuchon was at her house, and while she was taking a shower, he took her keys and left in the SUV.
The woman said she tried to contact Aubuchon to return the SUV because she did not give him permission to drive it, the report said.
