The Jefferson County Blazers, fresh off an extra-inning 11-10 victory over their county rivals, the JC Barnstormers, continued their run through the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association (SLABA) postseason tournament with a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Stallions 17-U club on Saturday (July 20) at Forest Park in St. Louis.
The Blazers outhit the Stallions 9-4 and were led by Brady Politte, Colton Anderson and Luke Boyster, each with two hits. Starting pitcher Adam Stahl went six and two thirds innings, striking out six, with Boyster coming on in relief to get the final out. With the win the Blazers advance out of the losers’ bracket and will face the Stallions 18-U team, coming out of the winners’ bracket, in the championship round at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Blazers, who lost to the Stallions 18-U in the first round, will have to beat them twice for the SLABA title.
Meanwhile, House Springs Post 783 was eliminated at the Missouri District 13 American Legion AAA (senior) tournament in a 6-1 loss to host Ste. Genevieve Post 150 on Friday night at Yanks Field in Ste. Genevieve. House Springs managed only three hits against Ste. Gen starter Tyler Litterest and finished 21-17 for the season. The championship round, pitting No. 1 seed Festus against Ste. Genevieve, was rained out Saturday and no start time had been set for Sunday.
