The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 32-year-old St. Peters man for allegedly breaking into a home in Barnhart. The man had performed handyman work at the home in the 2100 block of Parkton West Drive before the alleged burglary, authorities reported.
A woman on March 28 heard a noise in her kitchen and saw the man rummaging through cabinets in a hallway bathroom. She ran past the man, and he followed her into a bedroom, the report said.
The woman yelled for her husband to get his gun, and the man ran out of the home and fled in a gray vehicle, according to the report.
The woman told deputies the man had been hired to work at the home. She also said a window screen had been broken out in the kitchen, and she believe that is how the man got into the house, the report said.
A deputy called the man, who agreed to meet the deputy and provide a statement. After meeting with the deputy, the man was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and released pending the application for charges, according to the report.
The Sherrif’s Office will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for burglary, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
