The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is trying to locate a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz that was stolen from the side of the road near the intersection of Hwy. 61 and Canepa Road south of Festus. A woman had left the car there the day before after it experienced mechanical issues, authorities reported.
The woman called the police at about noon March 31 when she returned to the area to retrieve the car. The woman said she left the Cruz there at about 12:45 p.m. March 30, the report said.
The woman told deputies the rear door of the car did not lock, but she had the keys to the Cruz, according to the report.
As of April 6, the Cruz had not been located, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the car to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
