Walter “Wally” Freihaut, 94, of House Springs died Nov. 29, 2018. Mr. Friehaut was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from McDonnell-Douglas after 55 years as an aircraft mechanic. He was a devout Catholic and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Machinists Union. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, baker, poet, and he loved playing horseshoes and practical jokes. Born Dec. 18, 1923, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Leo and Cecilia (Witte) Freihaut. He was preceded in death by his wife: Genevieve Marie (Halmich) Friehaut.

He is survived by four children: Gary (Carol) Freihaut, Stephen (Pat) Freihaut, Ronald Freihaut and Jerome (Diana) Freihaut; 12 grandchildren: Shane Freihaut, Angel (David) McDowell, Joshua (Krystal) Freihaut, Jeramey (Katrina) Freihaut, Nena (Greg) VonderHaar, Adam Freihaut, Justin Best, Jasara Freihaut, John “Buck” (Haley) Freihaut, Jamie Frank, Justin (Sarah) Freihaut and Daniel Freihaut; 11 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Dylon, Alexyss, Bryson, Emaleah, Connor, Johnny, Marley, Jurnye, Jaxyon and Justyce; two siblings: Norman Freihaut and Norbert Freihaut; and many other relatives and friends.

He also was preceded in death by a great-grandchild: Tyler Shane Freihaut.

Visitation is scheduled from 3-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4696 Notre Dame Lane, in House Springs. Burial will follow at 11:15 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made at any U.S. Bank location to the recovery fund set up for Mr. Freihaut’s great-granddaughter, Alexyss McDowell. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
