The new company operating Six Flags St. Louis acted swiftly after a series of fights marred the opening day at the Eureka theme park.
Enchanted Parks on Tuesday, April 28, announced a chaperone policy at the park, 4900 Six Flags Road, that will require anyone younger than 16 to be accompanied by someone who is 21 years old or older. The policy goes into effect on Saturday, May 2.
Six Flags, which opened for the season on April 25, had a similar chaperone policy last summer for guests 15 and younger.
“We believe requiring a chaperone to be with guests 16 years of age and younger will impact behavior in a positive way and greatly reduce the inclination and ability to be disruptive to park operation and other guests,” park spokeswoman Elizabeth Gotway said.
Enchanted Parks took over operating duties at the park after Kansas City real estate investment company EPR Properties purchased Six Flags St. Louis and six other Six Flags parks earlier this year. The company plans to rename the Eureka amusement park Mid-America by Enchanted Parks, harkening back to the park’s original name, Six Flags Over Mid-America, when it opened in 1971.
Along with the chaperone policy announcement, Enchanted Parks officials also reminded guests that full or partial face coverings or anything that can be worn as a face covering are not permitted in the park. Park officials said this policy includes, but is not limited to, ski masks, balaclavas (Shiesty masks) and neck gaiters.
Gotway said signage reminding guests of the mask policy will be posted around the park. She also said staff will work with guests who have special circumstances that may require them to wear a mask.
“They would just need to speak with our public safety team upon entering metal detection,” she said.
Enchanted Parks’ chaperone policy says one person 21 or older may accompany up to six guests who are 16 years old or young. The chaperone must be with the younger guests the entire time at the park, or the younger guests may be asked to leave.
The policy also said those 17 years old or older should be prepared to present a valid government-issued photo identification before entering the park. The policy applies to all Six Flags St. Louis ticket and season passholders.
