Walter “Gene” Doyle, 90, of Festus died Oct. 11, 2023, at Festus Manor Care Center. Mr. Doyle was a U.S. Army veteran and former mayor of Festus. He retired from Ameren as a project estimator. Born Oct. 2, 1933, in East St. Louis, Ill., he was the son of the late Elanora (Hogan) and Walter Doyle.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Phyllis (Baker) Doyle of Festus; four children: Marilyn (Terry) Teeter of Overland Park, Kan., Patrick Doyle of Herculaneum, Kelley (Bill) Sullivan of Burbank, Ill. and Janette Becker of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and may other family member and friends.
He is preceded in death by a son: Michael Doyle; and three siblings.
Mr. Doyle chose to gift his remains to St. Louis University School of Medicine. Services are private. Memorials may be made out to the Dementia Society of America. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
