Mary P. Roberts, 92, of St. Charles died Aug. 25, 2024. Mrs. Roberts was a teacher in the Northwest School District and retired in 1986. She loved to read, travel spend time with family and embark on new adventures. She was a woman of faith and was known for her optimism. She never met a stranger and had a unique gift for making people feel welcome and valued. She will be remembered for putting others before herself, her gentle soul and her kindness. Born Sept. 14, 1931, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ethel (Hanger) Proctor.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years: Eugene Roberts whom she married in March of 1955.
She is survived by a daughter: Genine (Doug) Taylor; five grandchildren: Jason Ragadio, Brandon Ragadio, Cassie Lucas, Logan Derque and Joel Taylor; five great-grandchildren: Colton Taylor, Grace Ragadio, Addyson Taylor, Dominic Lucas and Viviana Lucas; and numerous other extended family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by two children: Linda Derque and Thomas Roberts; and four siblings: John Proctor, Melba Mills, Anna Lee Long and Janna Buffington.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until a funeral ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
