Freihaut, Gary

Gary Walter Freihaut, 73, of High Ridge died April 1, 2026, at his home. Mr. Freihaut was a jack-of-all-trades and held a variety of jobs throughout his life. His passion was teaching Kung Fu, instructing classes at various locations for more than 45 years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, where he served as an usher, lector, server, Eucharistic minister, Jonah Prayer minister and participated in men’s groups. He enjoyed helping others. Born Oct. 24, 1952, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Geneva (Halmich) and Walter Freihaut. 

He is survived by his wife: Carol (Apperson) Freihaut of High Ridge; two children: Shane Freihaut and Angel Freihaut (David) McDowell; two stepsons: James Inman and Adrian Amidon; 10 grandchildren: Caleb Freihaut, Dylon (Abigail) McDowell, Alexyss McDowell, Christian Miller-Freihaut, Caden Miller-Freihaut, Jesse Vawter, Joseph Vawter, Autumn Inman, Logan Inman and Lily Inman; a great-grandchild: Nevaeh Thiemann; two sisters-in-law: Pat Freihaut and Patti (Steve) Lash; and a brother-in-law: Bill (Sue) Apperson. 

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter: Lisa Litzsinger; three siblings: Steve Freihaut, Ronald Freihaut and Jerome Freihaut; and a grandson: Tyler Freihaut. 

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 4696 Notre Dame Lane, in House Springs. Mr. Freihaut chose to donate his body to science. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
