Gary Emmett “Brillo” McMahon, 74, of Crystal City died Jan. 19, 2026. Mr. McMahon was a retired electrician, known for his strong work ethic, skill and willingness to help others. He was a veteran and a member of the Plattin Rock Boat Club, the Eagles and the Amvets, where he found camaraderie, laughter and lifelong friendships. He was considered the life of the party, who brought the music, laughter and energy. He enjoyed feeding his family, cooking for friends and gathering people together. He loved time spent on the river and at the cabin with his wife and dog, enjoyed hunting and driving the mule through the woods and could often be found scrolling through YouTube videos at full blast volume. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his laughter, loyalty, service and love. Born Aug. 8, 1951, he was the son of Doris Mann (Greg) Gray and the late Emmett “Gene” (Helen survives) McMahon.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years: Lisa McMahon; two children: Rachel (Matt) Redd and Gretchen (Jacob) Messmer; seven grandchildren: Kaylee and Wes Woodward, Montana Redd, Breana Messmer, Jacob Messmer, Lincoln Redd and Colton Messmer; a great-grandchild: Amiyah Smith; three siblings: Kevin (Cindy) McMahon, Brent (Robin) McMahon and Erin (Carolee) McMahon; his dog: Otis; and many other family member and friends.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. until a service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Danny Loesch. Interment with full military honors will take place at noon Friday, Jan. 23, in Mann Cemetery in Annapolis. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Open Door Animal Sanctuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
