David Otto Bernard Schwarzen Sr., 85, of Festus died July 30, 2022, at Scenic Nursing Home in Herculaneum. Mr. Schwarzen was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a brewer at Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis. He was a member of the Festus Boat Club, the Elks Lodge in Crystal City, the Twin City Flyers and the Ham Radio Club. Born May 15, 1937, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late DeBetrice (Koebbe) and Otto Schwarzen. He was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Ann (Smith) Schwarzen.
He is survived by a daughter: Lori (Steve) Cookson of Columbia, Ill.; four sisters: Jackie (Vlado) Radovich of Brentwood, Natalie (Jeff) Hill of Sunrise Beach, Bev Stroup of Lake Ozark and DaNeil (the late Tony) Horrex of Lake Ozark; six grandchildren: Brian (Miranda) Cookson, Bradley (Lindsay) Cookson, Benjamin (Jordan) Cookson, Nathan (Amanda) Schwarzen, Natasha (Evan) Christopher and Cassandra (Daniel) Milligan; and nine great-grandchildren: Lia Cookson, Bella Cookson, Taylor Cookson, Cameron Schwarzen, Hadley Schwarzen, Kylee Christopher, Kinley Christopher, Alaina Milligan and Triston Milligan.
He was preceded in death by a son: David O. Schwarzen Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
