Firefighters helped three people from two vehicles on Romaine Creek Road in unincorporated Fenton because of flash flooding there on Sunday (July 25). No one was injured, said Bob Dunn, chief of the Saline Valley Fire Protection District.
In addition to Romaine Creek Road, flash flooding was reported on Deity Drive and at Old Hwy. 141 and 13th Street, as well as at Clearwater Drive and Cool Valley Drive, Dunn said.
He said those areas had not flooded since 2008 flooding rain from Hurricane Ike
Dunn said the flash flooding came as a surprise because it was not predicted in weather forecasts. He said the area got 4 inches of rain a three-hour period, according to the National Weather Service.
Dunn said crews were dispatched at 11:51 a.m. to Romaine Creek and were in the area until 2 p.m.
He said crews did not have to evacuate anyone from the area, but were prepared to do so.
In addition to Saline Valley Fire, the Rock Community and High Ridge fire protection districts had boats in the water, Dunn said.
The Cedar Hill, Hillsboro, Dunklin, Jefferson R-7 and De Soto Rural fire protection districts also helped with the call.
Dunn warned people against driving through water covering a road.
“Flash flooding can be moving a lot faster than people anticipate,” he said.
