The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force has taken into custody a suspect who was released from University Hospital on Friday after he was shot by police in Rolla.

The Cole County Sheriff's Office was searching for Marshawn Demone Tanner-McCaster on Monday following a notification that the man, who faces charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, was possibly in the Wardsville area, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office received an unreliable phone ping placing Tanner-McCaster in the Wardsville area, according to the release. The ping placed the suspect nowhere near any school, and he was not armed when he left the hospital, according to the news release.

However, the suspect's most recent phone ping placed him outside the Sheriff's Office's jurisdiction, and the Sheriff's Office reduced the resources dedicated to a search for him, according to the release.

The charges against Tanner-McCaster are related to alleged threats against police that followed a domestic disturbance investigation from Wednesday in Rolla, according to previous reporting.

Before officers arrived at the scene, a witness had removed a pistol from Tanner-McCaster's possession and threw it across the nearby creek next to a building, according to court documents.

When officers approached the scene, Tanner-McCaster allegedly ran in the direction of three telephone pedestals and a female subject. He allegedly bent over and picked up a pistol from the ground, then walked to the east side of the building while holding the weapon, according to the statement.

With his pistol pointed at the ground, Tanner-McCaster allegedly continued to yell at officers even after other officers gave him several commands to put his pistol down. One of the officers shot him as he attempted to flee, according to the statement.

Rolla Police Department said officers immediately aided the man until emergency medical services arrived for transport. No officers were injured during the incident, police said.
