David Kip Heyde has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in connection to the killing of 23-year-old Bailey Scott in Moberly in July.

Heyde entered the not guilty plea last week, and the Randolph County Circuit Court requested that the Supreme Court assign a judge for the case, according to online court records.

The defense requested a new judge earlier this month, court records show. The defense has also requested a speedy trial, court records show.

According to court documents, Heyde, 68, was the one who called police after a shooting took place in early July in the 900 block of East Logan Street. Moberly police said that Heyde admitted on the call to shooting a woman on his front porch and that she had died, according to a probable cause statement written by a Missouri State Highway Patrol sergeant.

Heyde allegedly told investigators that Scott came back to his porch and he walked outside to meet her with a .32-caliber Kel Tec handgun behind his back, according to court documents. Heyde allegedly said he spoke with Scott, and he claimed she became agitated over him feeding and trying to kill birds outside his home, according to court documents.

Documents stated that Heyde had used his other hand to gesture her to leave, and Heyde allegedly told investigators that Scott slapped him in the face. Heyde reportedly told investigators he reacted by firing his gun at Scott twice, according to the probable cause statement.

A Randolph County judge denied Heyde's bond after he was charged with second-degree murder.
