The two people who were shot last week in the 1100 block of Cordell Avenue in Jefferson City have died, Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson said.
Thompson said Tuesday that the assault charges filed against Michael Davis in connection to the shooting have been upgraded to first-degree murder.
The 40-year-old from Jefferson City is now accused of shooting and killing 39-year-old Shawna Davis and 31-year-old Sofie Mulcahey, Thompson said.
Court documents say Davis and Mulcahey left a home on Harding Street around 5 a.m. on Oct. 7, and Davis started shooting at the vehicle they were in.
Police said it was full of bullet holes when they found it crashed in the woods and both women were seriously hurt, according to court documents.
Thompson said Davis and Mulcahey were taken University Hospital in Columbia after the shooting and died there.
The original charges filed against Davis included first-degree assault as well as first-degree domestic assault. Thompson said those charges have been amended to two counts of first-degree murder.
According to previous KOMU 8 reporting, Davis also faces felony charges including unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
Thompson said Davis' arraignment on the new charges is scheduled for Friday.
