A 41-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a police officer allegedly saw the man drinking a beer while driving near the intersection of Augustine Road and Kevin Jon Court, Eureka Police reported.

At about 2:55 p.m. Sept. 21, the officer saw two men in an Epic EL40L golf cart traveling east on Augustine Road. The man driving the cart appeared to be drinking a beer, and the officer followed the man before stopping the cart at the Central Avenue Spur, 394 S. Central Ave, the report said.

The office saw two 16-ounce Bud Light beer cans in the cart’s cup holders. A 44-year-old Eureka man also was in the cart, according to the report.

The man driving the cart allegedly told the officers that he had drank four or five beers. The man also refused to perform field sobriety tests, and the officer arrested the man driving the cart and the passenger was released to a sober driver, the report said.

The man driving the cart was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.

The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Capt. Michael Tapp said.
