Mark T. Miles

Mark T. Miles has been named the next Rockwood superintendent.

The Rockwood School District’s Board of Education has extended the contract of Superintendent Mark Miles by one year.

On Feb. 18, board members voted unanimously to extend Miles’ contract through June 30, 2024.

Miles was hired Feb. 7, 2019, to replace Eric Knost. Miles received a three-year contract when he was hired.

The board previously extended Miles’ contract by one year in February 2020.

Miles’ current salary is $231,750. The board may adjust his salary in the spring when it sets the district budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

Miles’ initial salary was $225,000.

In a press release announcing the extension, board president Loralee Mondl said Miles has guided Rockwood well during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Miles has led with grace and compassion through some difficult decisions that no superintendent has been faced with prior to this year,” she said. “He has kept students and their education, as well as the safety of students, staff and families, as his focus and we are confident in his ability to lead our district moving forward.”

Miles said he appreciates the faith and trust the board members have in his leadership abilities.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with our Board of Education and administrative team to serve the students, staff, parents, and community of the Rockwood School District,” he said in an email on Feb. 23.
