traffic accident patrol patch

Eureka Police arrested a 29-year-old St. Louis man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following an accident on West Fifth Street near Workman Road, police reported.

At about 4:35 p.m. July 8, the man was driving a 2016 GMC Acadia east on West Fifth Street when he rear-ended a 2015 GMC Acadia, which a 26-year-old Labadie woman was driving. No one was injured in the accident, the report said.

When police arrived, the St. Louis man allegedly said he did not remember the accident because he had fallen asleep. He allegedly said he had two drinks before the accident, according to the report.

Due to heavy rain, the officer did not ask the man to perform field sobriety tests, and the man was arrested. The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.

The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
