Scott Edward Hilton III, 21, who lives south of Festus, was recently arrested after being charged for allegedly stealing from a man at gunpoint in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton, according to court documents.
Hilton was arrested on July 17, and as of Monday, July 20, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Jan. 21 charged Hilton with felony counts of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action, court documents said.
According to the probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Hilton arranged to meet another man on Jan. 4 at a convenience store in the Fenton area. The man thought he was going to buy marijuana from Hilton.
When the man and another person drove to the Fenton area, Hilton had them meet him in a residential area. When Hilton approached the passenger’s side of the car that the man was in, he allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded the man give him all of his money, the report said.
The man allegedly gave Hilton $710. Hilton then told the man and the person driving the vehicle to leave or he would shoot the man who gave him the money, according to the report.
Investigators reviewed cell phone messages between Hilton and the alleged victim, and they determined Hilton was in the vicinity of the robbery, the report said.
Investigators also discovered that Hilton on Jan. 5 called someone in prison, and they obtained Missouri Department of Corrections’ recordings of the call. Hilton allegedly told the person about the robbery, and he described how he robbed the person, according to the report.
Hilton’s description of the robbery matched the alleged victim’s description, the report said.
Hilton also told the person in prison that he planned to hide in Kansas City, according to the report.
