Kayla Porter, 24, of Fenton has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for felony robbery, court papers show.
On Aug. 5, 2014, Porter worked with others to rob a Ballwin man, the probable-cause statement said.
Porter met the victim on Facebook and arranged to meet him on Aug. 5. He picked her up, along with two other women, at a Cedar Hill mobile home park, and then Porter had the victim drive her and the others to an address in the 3500 block of East Four Ridge Road in Imperial. Porter said she needed to get out there and give her mother some money, and all three women exited the victim’s vehicle and got inside another vehicle parked nearby, the report said.
Jacob A. Woolverton, 27, formerly of De Soto, allegedly had been driving the other vehicle, but he exited it and went to the victim’s vehicle and got into the driver’s seat, after forcing the victim into the passenger seat, according to the report.
Woolverton, who most recently lived in St. Louis, started driving toward Old Hwy. 21, and when the victim questioned him about what was happening, Woolverton, who allegedly was holding a handgun in his lap, struck the victim in the face and then took $60 and a cell phone from him, the report said.
The victim was able to get out of the vehicle when it slowed down, and a passerby helped him, according to the report.
Authorities later learned that Porter used the stolen cell phone to call a friend for a ride, the report said.
Porter, who was charged with second-degree robbery, entered an Alford plea, which means the defendant does not admit to the crime but acknowledges that the prosecution likely could prove the charge.
On July 8, Jefferson County Div. 1 Circuit Judge Robert G. Wilkins sentenced her to 12 years. However, she may be released early if she successfully completes a 120-day treatment program, court records indicate.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Catherine M. Robertson handled the case.
Woolverton has been charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the incident and if convicted, faces 10 to 30 years or life in prison. That case is pending, and a criminal setting hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, in front of Jefferson County Div. 12 Circuit Judge Tony Manansala, according to court documents.
