A 30-year-old Hillsboro man who was arrested on an active warrant allegedly had suspected illegal drugs in an SUV he was driving at the Express Mart gas station, 6911 Metropolitan Blvd., in Barnhart, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A deputy at about 5:55 p.m. Jan. 17 was refueling his patrol car when he saw the man initially back up in a 2013 Ford Explorer from an adjacent fuel pump but then drive forward across the parking lot and park outside the gas station’s convenience store. The deputy looked up the SUV’s license plate and learned the man was wanted on a felony warrant, the report said.
The deputy arrested the man on the warrant. The man asked the deputy to get a key fob from the center console of the SUV, so the man could have a friend retrieve the Explorer at the gas station, according to the report.
When the deputy got the key fob, he allegedly saw a capsule containing a white powdery substance, a cut plastic straw with white residue on the tip and a clear plastic bag containing additional capsules in a center console cupholder, the report said.
The man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and held on his warrant, according to the report.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, the Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Capt. Matt Moore said.
