Hillsboro-area man allegedly threatened man with hatchet

Daniel Moore

Daniel Robert Moore, 38, who lives north of Hillsboro, was recently arrested on charges of allegedly threatening another man with a hatchet because he believed that man was having an affair with his girlfriend. Moore also allegedly struck the woman he was in a relationship with in the face, according to court documents.

Moore was arrested on Dec. 17 and was being held on a $7,500 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records show.

He has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison; and fourth-degree domestic assault, a class A misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000, court documents said.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, Moore on Oct. 10 was arguing with the woman in a Hillsboro-area home, claiming she was cheating on him. He tried to shove the woman, but instead, he allegedly hit her in the face.

The other man heard the argument and went into the home after Moore left. However, Moore returned holding a hatchet and threatened to kill the other man with it. The two wrestled for control of the hatchet, fell and Moore allegedly threatened to strike the other man with the hatchet, the report said.
