Daniel Conrad, 64, of the Fenton area was found alive under the Hwy. 141 overpass in unincorporated Fenton two days after floodwater swept him away when he was walking near Saline Creek, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Conrad, who lives in the 200 block of Turtle Drive, was seen May 21 walking along the creek, which is near his home, when heavy rain moved into the area. A family member reported him missing May 23, the report said.

Jefferson County Deputy Derek Richard and K-9 officer Zeus were dispatched to the area near Conrad’s home at 4:25 p.m. May 23 to help search for him. The pair arrived at 4:49 p.m., and they were able to find Conrad shortly after that, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

Zeus was able to pick up Conrad’s scent along the creek bank leading towards Hwy. 141, and one of Conrad's relatives spotted him under the overpass. Conrad was disoriented and weak, but apparently had no injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Rock Township Ambulance District personnel treated Conrad at the scene, and later a family member drove him to an area hospital for precautionary reasons, the report said.

Saline Valley Fire Protection District assisted with the search.
