Eureka Police arrested a 42-year-old St. Louis man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after finding him in a running car at a gas pump at the MotoMart gas station, 5695 Fox Creek Road. Officers learned the man was a chronic offender due to being convicted of a least four previous DWI charges, police reported.

Officers were called to the gas station at about 12:45 a.m. Feb. 6 because the man appeared to be unconscious in a 2010 BMW 325. When an officer asked the man to turn off the car’s engine, the man tried to use the volume knob on the radio to shut off the engine, the report said.

Officers allegedly saw several empty small alcohol bottles in the car, according to the report.

The man allegedly failed field sobriety tests due to being unable to complete the tasks, the report said.

The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and officers learned of his previous DWI convictions, according to the report.

Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for DWI as chronic offender, Capt. Michael Werges said.
