Eureka Police arrested a 25-year-old St. Charles man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The man was stopped on West Avenue because the car he was driving had expired license plates, police reported.

An officer at about 12:15 a.m. Nov. 23 saw the 2014 Mazda 6 traveling on West Avenue and stopped the car near West Fifth Street. The man told the officer he had just left a friend’s house, and he allegedly appeared to be intoxicated, the report said.

The man allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. When the car was searched, the officer found a bag that had numerous empty small vodka bottles and a 12 pack of Budweiser beer that had three full cans inside it, according to the report.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.

Eureka Police issued the man summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI and driving with expired license plates, Capt. Michael Werges said.
