The Crystal City man who crashed a pickup into the MRV Bank, 1319 Truman Blvd., in Festus recently has been charged with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender. The accident occurred last November.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on June 10 charged Kyle Anthony Morie, 43, with the felony DWI. He was arrested June 26 and was being held on a $2,500 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records said.
According to the probable-cause statement filed by Festus Police, an officer was called at about 8:25 p.m. Nov. 10, 2025, to the bank. Morie was being treated by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District personnel when the officer arrived.
The officer wrote Morie appeared to be showing signs of intoxication while being treated in the ambulance, and Morie refused to be transported to a hospital.
After Morie got out of the ambulance, the officer asked him what happened, and Morie said, “I honestly don’t know.” He also allegedly told the office that he “had a couple of drinks, uh I really don’t know, swear to god,” the report said.
Morie allegedly told the officer he was driving from a Pevely sports bar when the accident occurred, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.
The officer asked Morie to rank how drunk he felt from one to 10, with 10 being the highest. Morie allegedly said, “I think I’m on a 10 of being pissed off.” Morie also said, “This would never happen in a normal situation, I don’t know what happened,” according to the report.
The officer said Morie said he would not perform well in field sobriety tests because he needed knee surgery and he had medical issues with his back and hip. Morie allegedly said, “I can do that, but I’m so (expletive) broke down that it ain’t gonna matter,” when asked if he could perform the tests, the report said.
The officer wrote he determined it was not safe to have Morie perform field sobriety tests, according to the report.
Court records show Morie has been convicted of at least two prior DWI offenses. He was convicted once in 2008 in Camden County Circuit Court and again in 2010 in Jefferson County Municipal Court, according to court documents.
