Daniel K. Cronin, 23, of Barnhart has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for burglary, court documents show.

On March 10, Cronin unlawfully entered a home in the 2100 block of Meadow Drive in the Parkton subdivision in Barnhart while a man who lived there was inside, and Cronin entered the home for the purpose of stealing, court papers indicate.

During the burglary, the victim found Cronin hiding in the basement, and he had a plastic container filled with coins near him that had been taken from the home’s bedroom, the probable-cause statement said.

Cronin ran away, and the victim followed him to a nearby home in the 2100 block of Parkton Way in Barnhart, where he was arrested, the report said.

Cronin pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, and on Dec. 2, Jefferson County Div. 3 Circuit Judge Nathan B. Stewart sentenced him to 10 years in prison. However, he may be released early if he successfully completes a 120-day treatment program, according to the report.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Douglas S. Pribble handed the case.

Cronin previously was convicted of felony second-degree burglary and felony theft tied to a March 2014 incident in St. Louis County, and in September 2014, he was sentenced to two four-year prison terms, but the sentences were suspended and he got five years’ probation, according to court papers.
