Chad Barchus, 51, of Barnhart was allegedly found with two bags that contained methamphetamine and a pipe in House Springs. He was arrested after a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was called to an intersection after receiving a report of a suspicious person in the area, according to court documents.
Barchus has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a class D misdemeanor that is punishable by a fine of up to $500, court records show.
He was arrested on Oct. 19, and as of Oct. 20, he was being held on a $5,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court documents said.
According to the case’s probable-cause statement, a deputy was called to the intersection of Hwy. MM and Music Mountain Road. After being stopped while walking near the intersection, Barchus told the deputy he was wanted on warrants.
After being arrested, Barchus allegedly told the deputy he had a meth pipe in his pocket, which the deputy located. The deputy also found two bags with a crystal-like substance in Barchus’ jacket pocket, the report said.
Residue on the pipe and the substances in the bags tested positive for meth, according to a report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on April 25.
