A catalytic converter was stolen off a pickup while it was parked in the commuter lot off Hwy. 66, just south of Fox Creek Lane in Eureka. The cost to repair the damage to the 2006 Nissan Titan was estimated at $2,051.33, Eureka Police reported.
The theft happened between about 4:45 p.m. Jan. 21 and 6:45 a.m. Jan. 22, and the victim initially thought the muffler was broken when he heard a loud exhaust noise after starting the pickup. When he took it to be repaired, he was told the converter had been cut , the report said.
As of Feb. 1, the converter had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
