The public is invited to watch local firefighters and police officers compete in a rib-eating challenge Saturday, June 20, at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, 806 Arnold Commons Drive, in Arnold.
In addition to the contest, the restaurant will offer a variety of family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to noon that day.
At 11 a.m., firefighters from the Rock Community Fire Protection District will take on Arnold Police officers in the rib-eating competition.
Other activities include face painting, games and line dancing. Andy Armadillo will be on hand, and police cars and firetrucks will be on display. In addition, a “fire dog” will be there.
Admission is free. However, the event is tied to a fundraiser for the local Backstoppers, a nonprofit group that helps families of firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel who are hurt in the line of duty.
The restaurant has been selling $10 cards that entitle each buyer to three appetizers at the restaurant. As of June 17, the restaurant had raised $500 by selling the cards, and its goal is to raise at least $1,000 by Saturday, with all the proceeds to benefit Backstoppers, a restaurant spokeswoman said in a written statement.
