Jefferson College will hold a free “Careers in Social Work” workshop Wednesday, March 22, providing information about the social work field and various careers and employment opportunities in the field.

The workshop is open to the public and will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Viking Room, which is inside the Student Center on the Hillsboro campus, 1000 Viking Drive. No pre-registration is required.

Social workers try to help children, adults and families facing a variety of problems, including illnesses, mental health issues and other crises

At the workshop, social work professionals will discuss the field and answer questions. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics predicts that employment for social workers is expected to grow by 19 percent.

Jefferson College offers a pre-social work program designed to help students prepare for eventual completion of a bachelor’s degree in social work at a four-year college or university. In addition, Jefferson College has partnered with Fontbonne University to offer a 2+2 program that allows students to earn an associate of arts degree at Jefferson College and then a bachelor’s degree in social work from Fontbonne.

For more information about the workshop, contact Suzie Welch, Jefferson College assistant professor of sociology and social work, at 636-481-3435 or swelch1@jeffco.edu.
