A nearly $1 million construction project to improve safety on Hwy. 67 at Victoria Road and Montauk Drive is targeted for completion this year, the Missouri Department of Transportation reported.

“We do expect to have all work completed at Victoria and Montauk by the end of this year,” MoDOT area engineer Judy Wagner said.

The project, which began over the summer, has required periodic lane closures on Hwy. 67, and those closures will continue until the project is complete.

Currently, Hwy. 67 has two northbound lanes and two southbound lanes, and the project calls for the addition of an offset right-turn lane on the southbound side and the construction of a median acceleration lane on the northbound side.

When the project is complete, those making a left from Victoria Road onto Hwy. 67 will cross the southbound lanes to enter the acceleration lane to merge with traffic on the northbound lane, Wagner said.

“The construction project will improve safety for motorists by allowing cars to accelerate before merging into the northbound traffic,” she said. “The offset right-turn lane will allow side street traffic to see the oncoming traffic more clearly.”

MoDOT awarded a $942,293.71 construction contract to L.F. Krupp Construction of Ellisville to complete the work.
