A 33-year-old Cedar Hill man was arrested Friday afternoon (Nov. 29) for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. B north of Janssens Lake Road east of Dittmer that left him and a woman seriously injured and another man dead, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 12:13 p.m., the Cedar Hill man was driving a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan north on the highway and traveled into the southbound lane, where the minivan struck a southbound 1996 Chrysler Concorde head-on, the report said.
Paul D. Scaglione, 88, of Dittmer was driving the Concorde. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Big River Ambulance personnel, according to the report.
A passenger in the Concorde – Joann Scaglione, 87, of Dittmer – was seriously hurt, as was the Cedar Hill man, according to the report.
The Cedar Hill man was taken by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and Joann Scaglione was taken by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, the report said.
The Cedar Hill man was not wearing a seat belt, and the Scagliones were wearing them, the patrol reported.
Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
The highway patrol arrested the Cedar Hill man later that afternoon at the hospital for felony DWI resulting in the death of another and DWI resulting in serious injuries, according to the report.
