Look to the Horizons (Club): First State Community Bank sweetens the pot for ages 50 and up
First State Community Bank is offering its customers age 50 and older a way to get more out of their banking experience.
The bank’s Horizons Club Checking account offers free banking services, identity protection, invitations to local events and seminars, and travel opportunities, according to the bank’s website.
“There are quite a few benefits with the account,” said Debbie Kettler, a Horizons Club director.
The bank, with locations in De Soto, Festus, Hillsboro, Imperial and Shady Valley, has more than 3,000 Horizons Club members in Jefferson County, Kettler said.
Horizons Club members typically have opportunities to take extended trips twice a year to places like Chicago and Paris, and there are monthly opportunities to take part in day trips to local destinations, Kettler said. She said there are costs to participating in the trips.
Unfortunately, concerns about COVID-19 called a halt to trips in 2020. But planning is underway for 2021, fingers crossed.
“We are planning things for next year, hoping we are able to go through with them,” Kettler said. “We just have to wait and see what our new normal will be.”
Local events and seminars also were put on hold for this year because of the virus. But Horizon Club members can look forward to a future bingo party, typically held in March, and a Christmas party near the end of the year.
Seminars are also planned for the future, covering topics like financial and investment advice, insurance opportunities and hospital services for seniors.
“The topics are anything that pertain to senior citizens or those preparing to enter their ‘golden ages,’” Kettler said.
