Show off grandkids 2016

There’s just a week left for Jefferson County grandparents to get their entries in for the annual “Show Off Your Grandkids” photography contest, sponsored by Grand Times, Leader Publications’ magazine for seniors.

The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Friday, May 19.

First prize is $100; second prize is $50; and third to fifth prizes will be $25 each. Photos will be judged on creativity, composition, charm and technical aspects such as crop, focus and lighting. The quality of the photograph will determine the winners; this is not a beauty contest for children.

Winning photos will be published in the summer edition of Grand Times, which will be delivered in the mail in the June 8 issue of the West Side Leader, the Arnold-Imperial Leader and the Jefferson County Leader.

The photo must have been taken by the grandparent who submits the entry. Studio shots are not eligible. Since a print of the photograph will be needed for judging purposes, e-mailed photos cannot be accepted.

Include the following information:

■ Photographer's name, address and phone number.

■ The first and last names of children in the photo and how they are related to you.

■ When and where the photo was taken.

■ A brief explanation of why the photograph is special to you.

Send entries to: Show Off Your Grandkids, Leader Publications, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028. Photos may also be dropped off at the Leader office at 503 N. Second St., Festus.

Grandparents are limited to one entry per grandchild. A group photo counts as the entry for each of the grandchildren in the photo. Readers who participated in the past are welcome to do so again, but please send different photographs.

Photos will be returned by mail if a self addressed stamped envelope is included. Photos that are not published in the Leader will be posted to the paper’s website at www.myleaderpaper.com.

Seniors are also invited to the Wednesday, June 14, Festus Senior Expo, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Quality Inn in Festus.

For information about the contest or the Senior Expo, call the Leader at 636-931-7560.

Calling ‘Googie’ and ‘Peepaw’

We are curious about the names Jefferson County grandparents go by. We’d love to see a photo of you with your grandchildren and a brief story of what they call you and why.

These will not be part of the “Show Off Your Grandkids” contest; this is just for fun. Label your submission “Grandparent name.”

Submit in person at 503 N. Second; by mail at P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; or by email to Nvrweakly@aol.com.

Please give the grandparents’ name, town of residence and phone number, as well as the names of the grandchild(ren) in the photo. Then tell us your nickname and how it came to be. As many of these as space allows will be published in the paper; the rest will be posted to the website at www.myleaderpaper.com.
