Pet Spot: Family cat pays special attention to goldfish in tank

Lindsey Baxter-Winters of Crystal City submitted a photo of her cat, Abel, and goldfish Goldie, for Pet Spot.

Lindsey Baxter-Winters of Crystal City said her family’s cat, Abel, pays a great deal of attention to Goldie, the family’s goldfish. Her husband, Donnie, took the photo showing a typical scene displaying the relationship of the two pets.

Abel is a male calico rescue cat the family has had for three years and the family obtained Goldie, a fantail goldfish, two years ago at the Pevely Days festival, she said.

“He’s always around her tank and even dips his paws in sometimes,” she said. “I like to believe they love each other. Goldie teases Abel and Abel teases back. It’s so fun to watch them interact. She’ll swim to the top of the tank.”

Lindsey Baxter-Winters believes Abel is fond of Goldie.

“I think he loves her,” she said. “He could get her if he wanted.

“We have another, goldfish, Fanny, and another cat, a tabby named Lulu. Lulu does not care about the fish whatsoever.”
