A rematch of Jefferson County’s two teams in the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association (SLABA) was a one-sided contest as the JC Blazers shut out the JC Barnstormers 9-0 on Wednesday (July 3) at Fox High School.
Blazer starting pitcher Matt Harvey went the distance and gave up only two hits, a single by Taylor Wood and a triple by Doug Fromm, and struck out 16 in suffocating the Barnstormer offense. The win evened Harvey’s record at 2-2 and lowered his earned-run average to 2.17 in 29 innings pitched.
Brady Politte led the Blazers at the plate with three hits, including his second home run of the season. The Blazers broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning, knocking out Fromm, the Barnstormer starter and losing hurler.
The Blazers, who beat their county rivals 7-5 earlier this season, improved to 10-13 while the Barnstormers fell to 13-10. Both teams will play in the SLABA league tournament starting July 15.
