Cate, Terry

Terry Mack Cate, 67, of Imperial died June 6, 2018, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Cate was retired from Carpenters Union Local 1596. He served active duty in the US Army from September 1970 through March 1972, then in the reserves until September 1976. He also was a member of the Old Guard in Washington, D.C., serving as an escort during the funeral of actor Audie Murphy, one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and maintained the long Cate family tradition of involvement with baseball, first as a player and later as a coach for the teams of his son and grandson. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and going to animal parks with his grandchildren. Born June 15, 1950, in Piggott Ark., he was the son of the late Arvel and Mary (Haley) Cate. 

He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Rita (Warnell) Cate; a son: Joshua (Leighanne) Cate; two grandchildren: Ella and Nolan Cate; a sister: Marsha (Mark) Kendall; siblings-in-law Mark and Kathy Booker, Linda Gibbs and Doris Warnell; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 

A funeral service was held June 9 at Kutis South County Chapel in St. Louis County. Burial was in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to Connect Church Student Ministry, 1779 Springdale Blvd, Fenton, 63026; or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements were under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
