A former Hillsboro assistant police chief has been charged with sexual abuse and burglary in St. Francois County, according to court records.
David M. Dooley III, 30, of Park Hills was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of first-degree burglary on July 24.
According to a court document filed July 19 by the Desloge Police Department, the victim in the case received a phone call from an unknown number.
The woman told investigators when she answered the phone, it was Dooley, who told her he was a minute away from her home and had a banana shake for her.
When Dooley arrived at the home, the victim met him at his car for the shake. He then asked the victim if he could have a tour of her home.
The victim told investigators she agreed to give the tour because Dooley had told her he was looking to move into the school district.
Upon entering the victim’s home, police said Dooley made advances on the woman and attempted to remove items of her clothing, despite repeated attempts by the victim to tell him to stop and leave her home.
Dooley initially told investigators on July 21 that the entire encounter was consensual.
He later allegedly admitted that the victim told him to stop five times and that he ignored her demands, thinking she might change her mind.
Dooley served as the assistant chief of police chief beginning December 2024, according to the Hillsboro Police Department’s annual 2024 report.
That report states Dooley previously worked as police captain and a reserve officer.
On Oct. 6, 2025, Dooley’s employment with the department was terminated, according to city government records.
A June 2018 news release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol lists Dooley as a trooper within Troop C covering St. Francois and Washington counties.
The report also states Dooley worked as an intelligence analyst for the Army National Guard and served as a corrections officer at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
According to a statement from the Desloge Police Department, Dooley turned himself in to the St. Francois County Jail on July 27. He later posted a $150,000 surety bond on July 28, court records show. Dooley is scheduled in court for an initial appearance on Sept. 3.
