Kenny Ray Mayfield Jr., 43, who lives west of Arnold, has been accused of assaulting a woman who he is in a relationship with on two separate days at a home in the 600 block of Northview Drive. He also allegedly damaged the woman’s car, and he fired shots at the car, once while the woman was inside it, according to court documents.
On July 25, Mayfield was charged with felony counts of first-degree domestic assault, third-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon; two felony counts of armed criminal action; and a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree domestic assault, court records said.
He was arrested on July 24, and as of July 29, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.
Mayfield allegedly slapped the woman on July 21 during an argument at the Northview Drive home. The woman said after she was hit, she got into a 2010 Dodge Avenger in an attempt to deescalate the fight and cool down by running the air conditioning, the probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.
Mayfield followed the woman to the car, and he allegedly broke the car’s windshield and driver’s side taillight, the report said.
On July 23, Mayfield found a victim contact card that the woman received after the alleged assault, and he confronted the woman who was getting clothes out of the Avenger outside the home on Northview Drive. The woman said she was in the car when Mayfield fired a gun at the Avenger, and she ran away to a nearby gas station, according to another probable-cause statement filed by the Sheriff’s Office.
The woman said when she returned to the home, the Avenger’s tires were slashed, windows were broken and the car’s body was dented, the report said.
She also said Mayfield started arguing with her again, and he allegedly fired three more shots at the car. He also allegedly grabbed the woman, shook her and pushed her during the argument, according to the report.
