Armstrong, Shirley

Shirley J. Armstrong, 63, of Hillsboro died Aug. 1, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Armstrong was devoted to her family. She enjoyed fishing and gardening with her husband and playing with their grandchildren. She was passionate about genealogy and completed a lot of research for her family. She and her husband were active members of General Baptist Church in Barnhart. Born Nov. 3, 1957, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Felix “Sparky” Redding of Fenton and the late Dora Mae (Hoggard) Redding.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband: Charles Armstrong of Hillsboro, whom she married Aug. 13, 1977, in Fenton; four children: Charles (Elizabeth) Armstrong of Patton, Darrell Armstrong of Cadet, Julie Lutes of Poplar Bluff and Mary (Derek) Collett of Desloge; seven grandchildren: Holley Lutes, Shelby Lutes, MiKayla Armstrong, Hannah (Elijah) Platter, Joshua Armstrong, Jeremiah Armstrong and Rhiannon Collett; one great-grandchild; four siblings: Brenda Tinker of Affton, Wanda Buffington of De Soto, Dorian (Gilbert) Comte of Cyril, Okla., and Glen Redding of Fenton; three siblings-in-law: Mildred Hodges of New Caney, Texas, Raymond “Bud” Armstrong of Marble Hill and JoAnn Henry of Fredericktown; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Aug. 5 at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill. Burial was in the

Christian Church Cemetery in Fredericktown. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
