Shelby Jean Whitener, 86, of Festus died June 18, 2022, at Scenic Nursing Home in Herculaneum. Mrs. Whitener enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to Alaska. Born June 9, 1936, in Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Allena (Defoe) and Jerry Burns. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ray G. Whitener.
She is survived by five children: Ruth Ann Dalton of De Soto, Larry (Sue) Overton of Festus, Mark (Mandi) Overton of Crystal City, Paul Overton of De Soto and Don (Deena) Whitener of Festus; numerous grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Daryl Whitener; and a brother: Al (June Kilian survives of Alabama) Burns.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Pete Ruble. Burial will be in the Danby Cemetery in Danby. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
