Samuel Harrison Litton Jr., 82, of Herculaneum died Sept. 20, 2024, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mr. Litton was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Festus and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City, Knights of Columbus 1230 in Festus, the Mercy Hospital Jefferson Auxiliary and the former Assumption Church in Herculaneum. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1964 to 1966. Born Aug. 10, 1942, in Herculaneum he was the son of the late Edith (Busch) and Samuel Harrison Litton Sr.
He is survived by his wife: Virginia Ruth (Rosener) Litton; a son: Douglas Joseph Litton of Festus; special nieces: Marsha Carranza, Jeannie Boyer, Gera Hamby and Mandy Sigman; and numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: George (the late Fern) Litton, Donald (the late Isabelle) Litton, Everett (Anita survives of Festus) Litton, Thomas (the late Linda) Litton and Bobby Ray Litton; and five sisters: Marion (the late Jake) Warden, Helen (the late Roy) Stuthers, Mildred (the late Norvel) Lucas, Edna (the late Eric) Faulkner and Dorothy Litton.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, officiated by Father Michael Boehm. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
