
Ronald Clyde Nelson, 79, of Hillsboro died Oct. 10, 2025, in St. Louis. Mr. Nelson was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and was happiest when out on the water. Known affectionately as “Captain Ron” by many of his Raintree friends, he spent the last 20 years enjoying life at Raintree Plantation with his wife. A U.S. Army veteran, he served for three years, including two years stationed in Germany. He enjoyed vacationing and spending time at Table Rock Lake, sharing good times with family and friends. He will be remembered as a loyal friend, father and someone who brought sarcasm and joy wherever he went. Born Aug. 17, 1946, in Salem, he was the son of the late Clyde and Gladys Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Marylin (Arnold) Nelson; a son: Anthony (Julia) Nelson; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Eddie Gene Nelson and Stanley Nelson.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Dry Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to a VA organization of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
