Ray William Vines, 87, of Bloomsdale died March 26, 2026. Mr. Vines retired as a mechanic at American Can Co. He Ray was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, where he was baptized in 2003. He was known as a hardworking man who rarely sat still; he found purpose in the work of his hands and the care of his home. A skilled carpenter and woodworker, he took pride in building the house where he lived for nearly 50 years. Throughout the years, he crafted countless pieces of furniture, shelves, toys, a grandfather clock and rocking horses. He loved creating and working with nature. He enjoyed carving, tending to his garden and working on his many projects. He was also a beekeeper, raised worms and chickens and enjoyed making his own homemade wine. When he wasn’t working, he could often be found relaxing while listening to the St. Louis Cardinals games. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and sense of humor. Born Oct. 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel (Hedrick) Vines.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Vines.
He is survived by three children: David (Delta) Vines, Vicki Yount and Daniel (Cheryl) Vines; five grandchildren: Drew Vines, Nathan (Brittney) Yount, Kelly Gentry, Waylon Vines and Cody (Kayla) Vines; two great-grandchildren: Annabelle Yount and Elsie Yount; three siblings: Bud (Lena) Vines, Joan Bailey and Judy (Alvin) Proffitt; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He also was preceded in death by five siblings: Jeff (Jean) Vines, Hayden (Mary Jo) Vines, Fred (Wilma) Vines, Faye (Tub) Sharp and Charles (Marlene) Vines Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Bolin Cemetery in Hutton Valley. Arrangements are under the direction of C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre.
