A police chase following a false kidnapping report in St. Louis ended in Herculaneum early this morning, June 26, the St. Louis Police reported.

An officer was flagged down near South Kingshighway Boulevard and Chippewa Street and told of a possible kidnapping involving a black Chevrolet Impala. The officer attempted to stop the Impala, but the driver fled, the report said.

Officers pursued the Impala on southbound I-55, and when the pursuit entered Jefferson County, law enforcement officers deployed spike strips that deflated the car’s four tires. The Missouri State Highway Patrol then performed a tactical vehicle intervention near the McNutt Street exit, according to the report.

Police determined there was no kidnapping, and the driver was arrested for fleeing authorities.

St. Louis Police were still investigating the pursuit today.
