Paul A. Roy, 83, of Imperial died May 16, 2024. Mr. Roy began his police career after graduating from the city of St. Louis Police Academy from 1964 to 1965. He then went on to work for the St. Louis Police Dept. in the 5th district from 1965 to 1972, the 9th district patrol in 1972, the 9th District Detective Bureau from 1975 to 1981 and the 7th district from 1981 to 1985. He was awarded Police Officer of the Year in 1975 and 1985. He later retired in 1985. He was then appointed as chief of police in the city of St. George from 1985 to 2004 and was awarded Police Chief of the Year in 2001. He was a member of the Small Cities Police Chiefs Association from 1988 to 2004 and was the first elected president. Outside of his police career, he loved spending time with his family. He also loved to explore and could often be found in the woods during deer season. A lifelong jokester, outdoorsman and car enthusiast, he enjoyed life and making those around him smile. Born Feb. 9, 1941, in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late Lealand and Hilda Frances McIntosh.

He is survived by his wife: Catherine Roy; three children: Cristina (Vincent) Fels Jr., Shannon (Scott) Liker and Melissa Brown; two stepchildren: Shannon (Mike) Barnaby and Rebecca (Tim) Hall; nine grandchildren: Vincent (Emily) Fels III, Paul (Kristen) Fels, Ariel Liker, Alexis (Cody) Ackerson, Vanessa Liker, Madalynn (Sam) Holst, Savannah Brown, Lorelie Brown and Kayleigh; four great-grandchildren: Mason Fels, Parker Fels, Lucy Fels and Lennon Ackerson; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Ronald Roy.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, in South St. Louis County. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of Missouri or the Mercy Hospice South-de Greeff Hospice House.
